Mosey · The film

How the film was made.

Hey there! Alexis here. I'm the author of Mosey and director of the little film. As you may (or not) have guessed, the film was created with AI. If you're (like me) skeptical at this point, please read on.

On this page, I want to show you exactly HOW I created it with AI so that you have a chance deciding for yourself if it's "slop or not."

Why is this important?

Well, it's important to me. I'm personally getting more and more sensitive and frustrated with content because a.) I can't tell the difference between human-made and AI-generated anymore and b.) I can't tell if the person behind the artifact (blog-post, twitter message, promo video like this one) actually even cared about making it.

In fact, this page here is a kind of "prototype" of how I wish digital, AI-created content emerged. Was it a sloppy, careless one-shot of "Hey Claude. Make a cool video. Make no mistakes" or did the person behind the keyboard (in this case myself) actually put in the legwork?

I believe that giving you full access to my honest, imperfect, human side of the "creation" (warts and all), you and I get a fair chance to meet at eye-level on all of this.

How does this page work?

The first thing you'll see is the final cut of my little film. It's short and I highly recommend watching it first (if you haven't yet) so that you know what the rest of the page is about.

Then you'll see the full transcript of the "conversation" that I had with Claude Code to create the film withe the goal to put it on the frontpage to explain what this whole Mosey.app is about and, to a lesser degree, why someone should get it.

On the left side, you see my actual text inputs (or prompts although I would not call them that) which I sent to Claude Code. On the right side you'll see the assets (pictures, video clips and audio files) that Claude Code created in response.

When there was a intermediate deliverable (called "Cuts") where I felt like we had reached a milestone, you'll see them in row on their own. They're small highlights on the way to the final cut.

What I've left out: I've left out Claude Code's textual parts of the responses because they were mostly blathery fill-in wordsalat padding around the assets (which is what I cared for the most)

What I've left IN: In this version I'm leaving in ALL of it. ESPECIALLY the warts. You'll see my cursing and insulting and threatening Claude Code in ALL CAPS. Basically, you'll see me at my worst. This is incredibly embarassing to share but I feel like it's the most honest, too. It's how this sausage was made.

Your task now is: watch the short film itself, then peruse the full, pants-down "making of" of it.

Thank you and with best wishes,

Alexis

The final cut

Okay, let's think of what's more likely for a home office setup: 1. My own setup: I have a non-height-adjustable table and chair and the walking pad is next to my table. Meaning, when I step onto the pad, I take my laptop with and place it on top of the shelf that is next to my pad. This allows me to partake in a meeting while walking with minimal change. 2. With height-adjustable table: Person has the pad under their desk, plus a chair (how does that work?) and most of the time they sit on the chair. When they want to walk (say during a meeting) they need to change the table height to a standing desk, remove the chair (?) pull out the pad and walk. This is way too complicated. 3. Standing-desk only: Standing desk is always up, no chair, walking pad underneath. When not running, person stands on it (?). Can turn on the belt anytime also during meetings. I think we should go with my own scenario beause that is what I would video-shoot as well. Meaning we need to adjust the story around it.

And before we do any AI-generation, let's first create an illustrated story-board that we can discuss. Ideally the images are already close to the style we would use for our AI video.

Okay, I need you to look at the pictures before you show them to me because picture 1 is already problematic: The walking pad is EXACTLY NOT next to the fucking table. In fact, the person is sitting in a chair ON TOP of the pad which IS EXACTLY NOT WHAT WE DISCUSSED. Also, I believe we need to split this into four parts 1. We see the person sitting, in a call maybe, with the pad (still) in the background. 2. Close-up of the app starting a walk (short) 3. Close-up of the walking pad starting 4. We see the person again with the pad now running and them noticing it with a quick glance. The setup of picture 2 and 3 is better because it shows the pad correctly NEXT to the table. The placement of the book case for the laptop also is as discussed. Picture 5 is WAY too different to the others. Basically, almost on every frame, the arrangement within the room changes. So, we need to make sure that the setup (where what stands) is correct and the exact same for each pictuer. Another issue we can tackle later is the interiour design and the person themselves. But let's tackle that when we have consistency across all frames.

Okay, this is SO MUCH BETTER than before. Well done! One nitpick: For 1b, let's assume they're on a teams call with a bunch of people, so we don't want to show the app (because thy're not in our app, they're on a call.) Instead, let's show the full screen with the active video call and just our small menu bar item window pop up and zoom in towards that to suggest that it's magically happening without requiring much of your attention or screen space. The bookshelf overhang is weird. Let's now go to designing the office and the person themselves. I think we want to switch this to featuring a professional woman in her late 30s with a lot of taste. Let's say she's a top-manager for a financial firm in New York. She's well-dressed even at home in her home-office. She values good quality in everything, including her desk, chair and bookshelf.

Okay, almost there. But you MUST ensure as I've said before that the layout of the room and the placement of the pad, table, bookshelf etc. DO NOT VARY BETWEEN shots. Look here: shot 1 everything is right shot 1c the bookshelf suddenly shifted away from the walking pad shot 1d the bookshelf is suddenly back to its correct place.

Okay, I think the shots are a good start. Let's assume that by default there is no audio track on this. So, we'll probably need a few "video sales letter" text-slides between the shots to guide you. And since we're at that, right now we really just have a "here's the mechanics of HOW it works", which is great. But that means "The hook: seated." is NOT A FUCKING HOOOK. It's anything but a hook. So, this means we need to at least have a first sequence of slides that goes something like: The WHY section that pulls you in: Slide 1: "The world's longest-lived people don't exercise." Slide 2: "They simply get up and move every 20 minutes." (with a small visible source for "1. Buettner, D. "Lessons of the Blue Zones." In: Institute of Medicine, Business Engagement in Building Healthy Communities: Workshop Summary. National Academies Press, 2015. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK298903" Maybe show our "3 the walk" shot here for the first time. The HOW section that explains how it works Slide 3: Walks that start themselves. Show the walking pad as it turns on and starts rolling autonmously (Make sure to update the shot directiosn for this btw. The shot 1c should start with a still pad, then the LCD screens should turn on and the belt should start moving. Right now the AI still is too far away from the pad. It should be a closer-up so you see the LCD screen light up and the belt going from still to moving) Mosey builds that nudge into your workday: your walking pad starts on its own — an invitation to a walk that has already begun. And THEN we show HOW it works with the storyboard we have.

Picture Close enough that the LCD reads. It starts still, the screen dark. The LCD lights up. The belt begins to move. Nobody in the frame. Note Alexis's direction: still pad → LCD on → belt moving. The still is the clip's first frame; the wide shots' geometry, only close.

Let's split H3 into "Mosey builds that nudge into your workday: your walking pad starts on its own" and "an invitation to a walk that has already begun." where we show the ribbon with an actual walk starting, the guide dot moving along the ribbon. Maybe that's a separate shot that comes directly from our app, not AI-generated.

Okay, this is good. Let's not worry about the length yet. we can always cut things. a few pieces of feedback: - H4 with the headline at the top of the frame looks weird and clumsy. I'd say, let's drop h4 for now. - Part 3: I think we need a simple intro slide for part 3. Could be as simple as "Get an invitation to a walk that already has begun" (using H4s headline) - Between M6 and M7: We probably need a text slide inbetween here. - I don't like "Fifty-Two walks with a reason" and I don't like "The book." either. It's boring, super technical and impossible to read. How about we show one good, short example and mention there are 52 more of them. - "Step off whenever you like." drop this. - The "M12" rest shot looks weird and lazy. Maybe come up with a different visualization for the pause. It doesn't have to be pixel perfect, just clarify that the breaks are what make these every-20-minutes work.

Okay, this is good as a V1 storyboard. Now, any chance we can add a close-up action shot for "The pad does the pace and the tilt. You do the walking." where we see the same close-up position like in h2 but now we also see the belt moving, her exact shoes walking (make sure they're the right shoes!) and see how the walking pad automatically rises from the suspension mechanism.?

Okay, one last thing: drop M10. Then tell me what the next step is in terms of video generation. - What model or service do you think we should use? - How much do you expect a full run to cost (and where do I pay?) - Could we first create a prototype video that basically uses our static images and puts them into sequence with the right durations. This way I could verify that the timing feels right before we do any renders.

Feedback on timing: Okay, overall this looks great and the timing feels good for a first version as well. Let's drop the "Get an invitiation" slide. Visual design: I'm not crazy about our slide-design. The blue background and white text. Our walks have these changing color fields and better typography. So, use the app as our reference for how to design the slides. Each slide could have its slightly adjusted color field. API: Let's try using Gemini but let's stay open to using something else if the first results aren't convincing and/or making changes is too unstable. Tell me when you've implemented this feedback, then I think we should go ahead with writing and generating.

Okay, feedback on cut-v1: The closeup of the pad activating and the belt starting is perfect EXCEPT that the belt is going the wrong direction. Other than that, so far, the generated video shots are good. I am confused about the slides though because the background color field does not seem to be animated but static. Maybe you can reuse our existing backdrop swift generator to create slide shots that have animated backgrounds like our app does. Other than that getting done, I'd say let's add the third shot and let me review again.

How about we change the perspective on the close-up: Instead of looking at it from the side, maybe we can look at it from above? This way we would also see the "LCD display lighting up" better and maybe this way we could also control the belt direction better (?)

Err, okay, I think this is an okay start. the top-down view looks really ugly and technical though :( It's not a close-up either. Can you try to make this just a bit more engaging by being closer to the pad? Make sure the prompt for the display is clear and based on an example walking pad model (they usually show speed, incline and calories) and make sure the values shown are actual numbers, not hyroglyphs.

0. On the teams video chat view, we should zoom into the top-right notification. It's also a bit weird that none of the faces are moving. 1. Hm, a few problems: on the "notices the belt" clip she simply looks to the side but not towards the pad. Alos, the speed on the pad is insane. It needs to have the same speed as when we wake it up (slow) 2. I think we can drop the whole "Take the meeting with you" slide and clip where she puts the laptop down. Let's remove that from our script. 3. the clip where we change the incline is too short. We need to wait until the pad's incline has finished changing. Otherwise it looks weird and cut off. 4. We can also drop the "Corner store" walk details clip. It adds nothing. Let's simply skip directly to the sitting down clip.

We can remove the "notices the walking pad" clip because it's not working in the flow. 3. On the close-up with walking and incline change: The pad is shaking slightly in the first few moments but it should stay stable. Also, it's still fading out way too early. If you need, regenerate. In fact, the "walking and talking" clips should come BEFORE the "the pad does the pace" and change-of-incline clip. Do that and I have one more idea after

Now, after our "Twenty minutes at the desk" slide (second-to-last) I would like us to create a really cool visualization of what it feels like to use this over time. I love our main "Walking and talking" clip at 00:22. I would like us to create 5 this clip with the same person, same room, same setup, walking at the same speed but at different times of the day and doing different things while walking: - Writing an email - Not having the laptop on the bookshelf at all - Watching a movie on her laptop - Listening to music and walk-dancing a bit

Erm... she is walking in the wrong direction in the video for evening. I should said that of course that the walking direction has to stay the same, facing towards the bookshelf.
#48Alexis wrote at 18:19
when the laptop is not on the bookshelf, let's place something nice there, like a small flower bouquet or a few books.

Also, one small thing we can vary on is what's on her table and we can also SLIGHTLY vary the angle of the chair.

#51Alexis wrote at 18:25
Okay, you MUST look at the pictures before sending off a video generation because if you compare - Email, late afternoon: assets/video/anchors/shot3-email-b.jpg - Evening, no laptop, bouquet on the shelf: assets/video/anchors/shot3-nolaptop-c.jpg you will see that in the evening she is STILL facing in the wrong direction. WTF? I command you to do a reality-check after you generate an image-frame because you literally made the same mistake AGAIN
#52Alexis wrote at 18:27

In both super cuts, could we add one or two standing clips? Also, in the first super-cut in the beginning, I would love ot have one of the walking clisp to be the yoga one where we can see her in a stretching pose (they look great) For the preview - to circumvent the limit of screen-captured-only, could we come up with an in-app feature that shows our videos, maybe something like a "how it works" feature that clicks through the main videos in the app or something?

Okay, now we're getting the dynamics in - better but it's trying too many things at the same time. Remember we have a slow first, a bit faster middle and then we have the supercut. We want to probably fade out at the end. Please really think through how glass would compose this, not just throw random arps and chords at it.

SO MUCH BETTER! It's still a bit wonky, especially in the transition from part 2 to 3 and i would say overall the theme isn't there _yet_ BUT this is a commit and an update of our video online. So consider this v2.0 and let's try another go at it. At this point, the piano quality is also noticeably basic. Any way to improve the sound quality itself? Also, regarding elevenlabs, can't I just buy more credits here?

Now, the part 1 music cuts out and part 2 music starts a bit too early. Overall, the timing is a bit off now and I'm not hearing the well done pauses anymore. Part 1 music just gets swalloed at 11s and part 2 music starts at 12s while the super cut is still visible. The pause between part 2 and 3 is good. But somehow part 3 music doesn't seem to vibe. Just in terms of the melody, not the speed. The final speed-up is too much. Both in video and music. but we land well on the "sitting-down" clip.

ah, the sustain of part 2 is cut off now and should last until we kick in with part 3. What's not great is that part sounds like it's suddenly starting somewhere in the middle but the timing is better.

Okay, I'm getting frustrated now. Part 1 to part 2 was okay just before you made that change. Now the final note you ADDED (which I did not ask you to) is too late so the pause itself is too short. What we do want to keep is the new transition between part 2 and 3.

Yesterday we made an incredible video - thank you for that. What I've noticed for the first time is that all our colourfields (in the app, website and video) are very gloomy and borderline negative. Everything else is great design-wise, but we need to change the palette across all of them to reflect the optimism and joy for life instead of for example this webpage that looks like a poster for a horror movie. Before we do that, I would like us to explore these new colorfields first in a PDF. For that I would like the pdf to include a grid of the current colorfields and then 3 pages, each with a grid of fields that together would represent our new look-and-feel.
