is there a book / essay about environments that best support scientific discovery? Not about specifically bell labs, cavendish, xerox parc, los alamos - but why these places were so productive?

Then I bought an actual 1968 Whole Earth Catalogue on eBay and, not exaggerating, everything make sense. Xerox. Apple. General Magic.
@yacineMTB Reminds me of William Bridges on Transitions. Transitions are different than stories:
1. They start with an ending ("It's actually over")
2. They have a messy middle with lots of ambiguities ("Where is this going?")
3. They end in a new beginning ("This is very different")

How does everyone manage state in the little personal apps they're vibe coding? If you believe AI software butlers will happen, there's a need for a product here. You want basic sync across desktop/mobile, good security/privacy, and (for extra credit) limited multiplayer.
