OF COURSE I personally love the single-hacker legacies more: The early months of DHH making Rails single-handedly. Rich Hickey's initial 3-year tour-de-force for Clojure. Matz hand-crafting Ruby for almost 2 years back in 1998. And Guido van Rossum soloing on Python in 1990.
