if you have an idea, you build it. that’s the only way to test if it holds up. bezos made people write six page memos instead of slides to force clear thinking. that was smart then. but now prototypes do the job better.
As soon as Claude artifacts came out last year, I prioritized one-on-one hour-long sessions with every product manager and designer in the past org I was in.
I really thought that this was it! No more waiting on engineers (like myself btw) to get through the first five iterations for weeks and months. They could do it in a few hours.
It did not register with even one of them. I got mostly blank stares, confusion, or rejection ("I'm only going to use Figma because that's what I learned and that's what I was hired for.")
Almost exactly the same resistance with the software engineers. It took me two, almost three years now, with demos and tutorials and weekly show-and-tells for them to "accept" Cursor.
Completely different with our sales and ops team: Fully self-enabled, building prototypes, assistants and end-to-end production systems since management ChatGPT.
My favorite quote from the sales team at our first day-long "AI Hackathon" last year:
"We started the day working on this idea but we had shipped it before noon. So we started the next one and we're almost done. It'll save us about 50 hours per week at a minimum."
